Albert Sachse’s Collection in the National Museum

The publication presents the collection of merchant Albert Sachse (1851–1921) installed at the National Museum – Náprstek Museum of Asian, African and American Cultures in Prague and the Museum of Glass and Jewellery in Jablonec nad Nisou. Altogether it consists of almost two thousand objects of various provenience. A. Sachse collected everything associated with his interest as a merchant in glass goods (objects produced from components with which his firm traded, exotic objects from regions where the firm operated, and pattern books which were offered to the local inhabitants). The publication is divided into three sections. The first section is devoted to the personage of A. Sachse as a merchant and collector. The second section focuses on the collection installed at the National Museum – Náprstek Museum of Asian, African and American Cultures. This section is divided into a sub-chapter according to the regions from which the objects originate or where A. Sachse’s firm traded them. The third section informs the reader of the collection installed at the Museum of Glass and Jewellery in Jablonec nad Nisou. The ethnographic collection of A. Sachse was acquired by the National Museum in 1926 thanks to the Ministry of Culture and National Education which purchased the collection for the Museum.
