This popular and educational publication was published to accompany the exhibition of the same name held at the National Museum. It focuses on the earliest state formations on Mongolian territory, the origins of the Mongolian Empire, Mongolian warfare and cultural influences within the Mongolian Empire, as well as contacts with Europe. Attention is paid to events with a direct relation to our countries. The campaign to Europe in 1241 has been reflected in many Czech legends and literary works since the Middle Ages. Textiles from the High Middle Ages found at Prague Castle are an example of economic and cultural exchange. In 1958, a major archaeological excavation was carried out in Mongolia by a Czechoslovak-Mongolian team. In the 1950s, the fundamental literary monument of Mongolian history and literature, the Secret Chronicle of the Mongols, was translated into Czech. The individual texts are written by leading experts on the subject, but are presented in a popular-scientific form suitable for a wider audience. The publication is accompanied by paintings by Ondrej Basjuk.
