The pictorial publication published to accompany the exhibition of the same name at the Náprstek Museum focuses on armed conflicts in different parts of the world and in different historical periods. The aim is to understand what war meant both for the participants themselves and for those whom it affected indirectly. How they perceived themselves in the context of the fighting, what the war brought them in all spheres of life besides suffering and death, what its significance was for the economy, the development of technology, and artistic production. The book reminds us that much of the pre-modern conflicts, the 'primitive war', remains in the thinking and behaviour of today. Interpretation is guided through a large number of photographs of objects from various armed conflicts, maps and other pictorial material.
