The book presents selected garments and shaping items which are included in the collection of the National Museum – Historical Museum. They witness to the history of mechanical shaping the human, in this case female anatomy. Stays, corsets, crinolines and bustles were supposed to form an artificial silhouette in dependence on how the body aesthetic was understood at certain time. The history of the above garments reach several centuries back and it has survived, in the certain form, to date. The publication gathers results acquired based on a thorough detailed research, which the particular items were subject to, including textile and technological analyses, X-ray, drawings documenting patterns and embellishing elements, and complete material analyses.
