Activities of the Central Advisory Board for collection activities, acquisitions

In 2022, the National Museum’s Central Advisory Board for collection activities discussed 23 proposals for the purchase of collection items or sets of items in the total proposed amount of CZK 9,105,736. In terms of content, the purchase of all 23 proposed acquisitions was approved; the purchase of 7 items was implemented as a priority.

Part of the collection of Sokol badges and memorabilia was purchased for the Historical Museum from the Ministry of Culture ISO II/C subsidy program in the amount of CZK 360,000.

Most proposals for acquisitions were financed from the NM budget in 2021, and these funds for acquisitions were drawn by the Museum of Natural History and History Museum.

Newly acquired equipment and restorations from the ISO II/D grant

In the calendar year 2022, the National Museum received a subsidy from the ISI II D program in the amount of CZK 1,173,000, mainly for the purchase of packaging material for the Library of the National Museum, the Natural History Museum, the History Museum and the Czech Museum of Music. A portion of these funds was used for the last stage of restoration of children’s costumes from the Kačina Castle theatre and for the preparation of zoological material using the dermoplastic method and the restoration of historical dermoplastic preparations.

Inventory

In 2022, both the inventory for 2022 and the first twenty-year inventory cycle for the entire National Museum were completed. Overall final reports were prepared for all branches of the National Museum that have collections registered in the CES, as well as an evaluation of the overall state of the collection fund in individual branches. The final report for the entire museum was prepared in January 2023.

General Review

During 2022, a gradual inventory was carried out in the archaeological sub-collection of the HM depositories in the Terezín Central Depository. The SVN 1 Department assisted the HM 1.2 Department (the Department of Early Czech History) with the inventory of collection items in the depositories left by Mr. Vladimír Brych. The inventory of archaeological objects took place a total of 8 times (with the participation of SVN 1, HM 1.2 carried out the inventory more intensively) and a total of over 50,000 inventory items were inventoried. A few minor shortcomings were discovered, such as unprocessed funds of archaeological findings from research that took place between the 1970s and 1990s. Mould was discovered in several wooden crates. After consultation with Ing. Tereza Horáková, who was present during the inventory, a corrective solution was proposed. An important step is to remove items that do not belong in the collection and professionally process and treat the intact material. It goes without saying that the most important step is to store the objects after treatment in suitable packaging material.
This was followed by a general review of the Department of Early Czech History. The 2S43 Base Metals Depository in ÚDTII was chosen for regular reviews, in cooperation with Mgr. Klára Fleková. The review in this depository began in 2020 with Mr. Brych, but due to anti-Covid measures, the review was interrupted. The review took place a total of 4 times. In total, 2,689 inventory items + 64 inventory items were reviewed (inventory items were additionally searched outside the submitted lists). Of those, 102 inventory items were “temporarily removed” – these items were supposed to go to NEX but this did not take place. Items are being searched for in Terezín depositories. 13 inventory items were not found (these include pieces of slag and pieces of iron – these may have deteriorated, the inventory numbers may have chipped off.), + 16 inventory numbers are missing. Over 30 items are in NEX.
