Throughout the accounting period, the management of the National Museum monitored the costs of the organization with maximum prudence and strove to meet the approved budget for 2022. Similar to previous years, the costs of services cannot be accurately predicted, as these increased costs are primarily related to exhibition activity and the realization of new expositions. The costs invested in the realization of exhibitions and new expositions show positive results. Among the more significant scientific discoveries in cooperation with foreign institutions is the participation of the National Museum in a project of the University of New York, in Vienna and the Harvard Medical School. This cooperation is proof of the excellent and successful cooperation of the scientific staff of the National Museum with foreign institutions. The relevant study titled Large-scale Migration into Britain During the Middle to Late Bronze Age, published in the prestigious journal Nature, made a fundamental contribution to clarifying migration to Britain during the Bronze Age. It revealed that between 1300 and 800 BC there was a large-scale movement of people from western Europe into Britain, replacing almost half of the ancestors of the population of south-east Britain. Another great success is winning the “Most Beautiful Book of 2021” award for Dr. Lubomír Sršeň’s three-volume monograph “Painted Hanging Portraits”: a collection of the Department of Early Czech History of the National Museum, which represents the culmination of many years of research by the above-named expert.

The research activity took place both within the framework of a regional focus on the territory of the Czech Republic, as well as at important natural science and archaeological or ethnological locations around the world. Excavations continued in the Sudan Archaeological Expedition and a new international collaboration of archaeological research in Syria and natural science research in the Philippines, Algeria and Bulgaria commenced.

Of the contractual collaborations, it is worth mentioning the Memorandum of Understanding concluded in 2022 with the National Palace Museum and the National Taiwan Museum in Taiwan, on the basis of which the institutions became sister museums cooperating on scientific projects, exhibitions or expert internships.
