In previous years, the exhibitions Moments of History (2019), History of 20th Century (June 2021), Miracles of Evolution (September 2021), Windows into Prehistory (November 2021) and History (March 2022) and partly the Children’s Museum (September 2022) were completed and opened to the public.
The full opening of the Children’s Museum took place on 30 June 2023. The central concept of the exhibition is exploring the world from a different perspective and is also an alternative to children’s exhibitions based on digital technologies and augmented reality. The interactive elements within the exhibition are mostly mechanical and the overall artistic setting of the halls is slightly archaic and based on traditional materials (wood, metal) and processes (pen and ink drawing, woodcut). The intention of the exhibition is to focus the attention of child visitors on the creative, imaginative dimension of exploring the world around us, the joy and fascination of discovering the new, or new connections in the already known.
In addition to the completed and already accessible exhibitions, preparatory activities were also underway in 2023 on other exhibition projects. As part of the process, a public tender for a contractor for the People exhibition was launched in 2023, with its opening planned for 2025. The contract was awarded in December 2023.
Work continued on the lichen, plant and fungi exhibit in the Historic Building as part of the completion of the natural history exhibits. In 2023, the layout of collection items was presented, work began on graphics and preparation of interactive elements and dioramas.
During the year, the preparation of a new exhibition in the Czech Museum of Music with the topic of Sound continued. In the first half of the year, spatial designs were prepared by the architectural studios contacted, and in the autumn the architect Emília Jarošová was selected to prepare an architectural study of the entire exhibition in a more detailed form.
The Jewellery and Coin Cabinet exhibition is still being prepared, but due to the use of its halls for temporary exhibition projects and as a security depository space for the needs of foreign exhibitions, it has not yet reached the implementation stage.
