This lecture will discuss the establishment of the Museum, its multidisciplinary collections, and the various collectors who contributed to these collections. The paper will highlight collectors from early European collectors like David Livingstone and Emil Holub, whose collections significantly form part of the museum's holdings, as well as local and international researchers and curators who have contributed to the museum's growth. Notable contributors include Desmond Clark, Mubitana Kafungulwa, Nicholas Katanekwa, and Francis Musonda, among others.  Additionally, the paper will showcase some of the most important items in the collection that have contributed and/or have the potential to contribute to world history. These include the first evidence of human use of fire, the Broken Hillman Skull (in absentia), Ingombe Ilede collections and the bird nest collection (one of the largest in Sub-Saharan Africa). The paper will conclude by exploring potential opportunities for future collaborations to continue expanding the museum's collections and research projects.
